Game overview

Play classic Minesweeper free online in Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert mode. Your first click is always safe, flags work with right-click or long-press, and a Dig/Flag toggle makes it easy on phones. No download, no ads.

Minesweeper is the logic game many people first met on an office PC. The field hides a set number of mines; every square you open either shows a number—how many mines touch it—or clears a whole empty area. Using those numbers, you work out which squares are safe and which ones to flag.

This version keeps the three classic boards: Beginner (9×9, 10 mines), Intermediate (16×16, 40 mines), and Expert (30×16, 99 mines). The first square you open is always safe and never touches a mine, so every game starts with a real opening instead of a coin flip. On a portrait phone, Expert rotates to 16 columns so it stays playable.

Speed players can use chording: tap a revealed number whose mines are all flagged and every other neighbour opens at once. Your best time for each level is saved on your device, so you always have a record to beat.

How to play Minesweeper

  • Tap or click a square to dig it open.
  • A number shows how many of the eight surrounding squares contain mines.
  • Long-press, right-click, or switch to Flag mode to mark a suspected mine.
  • Tap a revealed number whose mines are all flagged to open the rest of its neighbours.
  • Open every safe square to win; hit a mine and the game is over.

Tips & strategies

  • A 1 touching only one unopened square means that square is a mine.
  • Look for 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 patterns along edges—they reveal mines and safe squares.
  • Flag only what you need for chording; unnecessary flags cost time.
  • When a guess is unavoidable, pick the square with the fewest numbered neighbours.
  • Press R to restart instantly and F to toggle Flag mode on a keyboard.

FAQ

Is the first click in Minesweeper always safe?

Yes. Mines are placed after your first click, away from that square and its neighbours, so you always get an opening.

How do I place a flag on a phone?

Long-press a square, or tap the Dig button to switch to Flag mode and then tap squares to flag them.

What are the board sizes?

Beginner is 9×9 with 10 mines, Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines, and Expert is 30×16 with 99 mines.

Does it keep my best times?

Yes. The best time for each difficulty is saved in your browser on this device.
